Feasibility Study for the Replacement of Remote SWER lines with Stand-Alone Hybrid PV Systems in Victoria.
CPPAL, Australia
Project Overview
The consultants were engaged to determine if the aging Single Wire Earth Return (SWER) lines in the fringe-of-grid locations, owned by CitiPower and Powercor (CPPAL) could be feasibly replaced by islanded smart grids, using PV systems, battery storage and diesel gensets.
SunSage Consultant’s Role
- Modelling of operation and maintenance costs of CPPAL owned SWER assets.
- Compilation of cost drivers for PV systems, Lithium-Ion battery storage and diesel gensets.
- Modelling of an optimization software to automatically size smart grids as per required energy demands and regulatory requirements.
- Financial projections of O&M costs for remote grids based on literature reviews and interviews with senior market analysts.
- Simulation of the cost vs benefit, of shifting SWER-fed customers downstream of each isolation transformer in the CPPAL grid.
- Reporting and presentation of results.
